Louise BraithwaiteSenior Lawyer

Louise Braithwaite graduated with honours in law from the University of Tasmania before moving to Melbourne in 2000 to complete an associateship to Federal Court Judge Mr Justice Heerey. Louise then worked for several years with large multinational clients at Corrs Chambers Westgarth in its IP group. Louise's specialisation in competition and consumer law was honed working as the specialist in-house trade practices lawyer for Australia Post. She brings to the firm significant experience through her involvement in a multitude of matters ranging from:

  • All issues arising from marketing and advertising law and trade promotions.
  • The vast range of general commercial matters affecting in-house teams.
  • Contract drafting, negotiation and advice.
  • External and internal investigations and responding to regulators.

Having worked as in-house counsel for two of Australia's best known retail organisations (Australia Post and Origin Energy), and as part of the corporate legal team of Victoria's largest government department, Louise has a solid understanding of and expertise in the general commercial legal issues faced by in-house counsel as well as an ability to respond to a diverse range of specific issues. Louise has extensive experience in working with multinational marketing, brand and sales teams to assist in devising proactive strategies to achieve commercial outcomes; she has a strong understanding of in-house environments and the drivers of customer-focused retail organisations with significant brand presence. After completing her first degree in the UK Louise worked in marketing, events organisation and publications in England and Australia before returning to law school.

Louise is also experienced in proactive risk management strategies including preparing and delivering compliance policies and programs (Australian Consumer Law and the Competition and Consumer Act 2010) as well as writing training materials with business / customer - specific examples and delivering training seminars.
