Andrew McAdam Senior Lawyer

Andrew McAdam graduated from the University of Melbourne with degrees in Law and Arts and joined Kelly Hazell Quill in 2010 after 20 years as a partner in a leading national law firm.

Andrew specialises in commercial and construction litigation, and brings to the firm a wealth of experience derived over the years from his involvement in many large and small matters focused primarily on:

  • General commercial disputes, insolvency, trade practices and corporations law matters.
  • Proceedings involving claims made against professionals, especially in the financial services sector.
  • Construction litigation for contractors, engineers and architects.

He brings to commercial and construction disputes considerable experience in devising strategies to achieve commercial and cost effective resolutions, and he has a strong understanding of alternative dispute resolution processes.

Andrew is also experienced in risk management issues, and is retained by prominent professional services organisations to act and advise generally in relation to risk and liability issues.

Experience

Andrew has handled litigation in all jurisdictions, including prominent litigation in the Supreme Courts of Victoria and New South Wales, such as:

  • The litigation arising out of various corporate collapses including Estate Mortgage, Farrow Group/Pyramid Building Society, and HIH Insurance.
  • Acting for six firms of accountants in the Aroni Colman/Max Green litigation.
  • The Lorne and Apollo Bay Waste Water Treatment Plants litigation.
  • The Docklands Stadium roof litigation.
  • The litigation by investors arising from the collapse of Westpoint.

He also acted for insurance interests in connection with the HIH and Metropolitan Ambulance Service Royal Commissions.

However, he has also been involved in an array of much smaller litigation in the Magistrates and County Courts and at VCAT, and he understands the issues involved in managing smaller cases, including the importance of containing costs.
