Shomit completed his law degree (with Honours) and his science degree (majoring in Biochemistry and Pharmacology) with the University of Melbourne in 2003, and began his legal career at DLA Phillips Fox in 2004. After initially settling in the insurance litigation department where he represented insurers in product liability and medical negligence claims, he transferred to the technology department where he focused on commercial and intellectual property matters.

Prior to joining Kelly Hazell Quill in April 2009, Shomit spent over a year working for the in-house legal team at CSIRO, where he provided commercial legal advice in support of research relating to the environment and climate change.

Shomit is a general commercial lawyer with experience in providing legal services to a diverse range of clients, including start-ups, Government, and multi-national organisations. Having worked in-house at CSIRO and on various secondments, he provides commercially focused and strategic legal solutions to support the business of his clients.

His expertise extends to a variety of commercial matters, including technology procurement and licensing arrangements, intellectual property protection and advice, marketing and sponsorship arrangements, and IT issues.
