Melanie Rice

Melanie graduated from the University of Adelaide in July 2002 with degrees in Law (with Honours) and Arts. She hails from Adelaide, but was enticed to Melbourne in January 2003 where she subsequently worked at DLA Phillips Fox, Holding Redlich and Corrs Chambers Westgarth in their respective Commercial Dispute Resolution departments.

Melanie has experience in a wide range of commercial disputes, including property/leasing, trade practices, intellectual property, product liability, insolvency and contractual disputes. More recently, Melanie's focus has been in media law, including defamation, contempt of court and advising on pre-publication matters.

Melanie is regularly involved in litigated matters and trials in a range of Victorian Courts. She also has experience in providing strategic, commercial advice on all aspects of litigation and dispute resolution and provides general legal risk management advice to her clients.

Joining Kelly Hazell Quill Lawyers in November 2008 as a commercial litigator, Melanie continues to work in the area of commercial dispute resolution and media law.

Melanie is a board member of the Western Edge Youth Arts Inc, a not-for-profit community arts organisation which delivers quality arts programmes to culturally diverse youth in the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne. She is also a board member of The Black Arm Band Inc, a creative meeting place for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal artists and producers to develop, perform, promote and celebrate contemporary Australian Indigenous music.
