
John-Paul Cashen
Senior Associate
John-Paul completed his law degree (with Honours) from the University of Melbourne in 2003 and began his legal career at Corrs Chambers Westgarth in 2004. After completing six-month placements in the Corporate and Property sectors, he settled in the litigation team.
John-Paul has extensive experience in a large range of commercial disputes with a significant focus on defamation, contempt of court, freedom of information, workplace disputes and contractual disputes. He is regularly involved in litigated matters and trials in a range of Victorian Courts and Tribunals. John-Paul also appears regularly in all Victorian Courts and Tribunals including the Supreme Court of Victoria.
John-Paul joined Kelly Hazell Quill Lawyers as a Senior Associate in 2008 in the commercial litigation group with a focus on media law. He acts for high profile media organisations including The Herald and Weekly Times (publisher of the Herald Sun and MX), Leader Community Newspapers, Channel 9, Channel 7 and Radio 3AW.
He has also shown a considerable commitment to pro bono work through his involvement with PILCH since 2006. John-Paul was Acting Co-ordinator and Principal Solicitor of the Homeless Persons' Legal Clinic from March - July 2007 and was a founder, team leader and senior lawyer of the Corrs pro bono clinic.
